If you are going to be in the Fredericksburg Area during the first weekend in December, you will have the opportunity to enjoy many celebrations taking place at that time. There are numerous Christmas Parades, Art Shows and Concerts in and near the City of Fredericksburg.
One of the most highly anticipated and well attended concerts during this first weekend is presented by the Rappahannock Choral Society. The 65 member audition-only choral group is directed by Linda Monner and draws its members from Spotsylvania, Stafford, Orange, King George and Louisa Counties as well as the City of Fredericksburg. This year the concerts will take place Saturday evening December 1 at 8 PM and Sunday afternoon, December 2 at 3 PM at the Chancellor High School, 6800 Harrison Road in Spotsylvania.
The concerts will feature a variety of songs celebrating the season, including many popular holiday songs, lovely traditional Christmas songs, and a song to celebrate Hannukah. The concert will conclude with the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah. The RCS Christmas Concerts are FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
Last year and this year, the Rappahannock Choral Society was the only chorus invited to sing at the National Harbor Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and performed to over 3000 people. The RCS is the recipient of grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts as well as the Rappahannock Electric Coop and receives additional support from members of the community
