World AIDS Day Observance

Fredericksburg Area HIV/AIDS Support Services (FAHASS) is planning to observe World AIDS Day on Sunday, December 2, 2012.  You are probably aware that World AIDS Day is actually observed on December 1 each year; however that is the same day as the Fredericksburg Christmas Parade. We are also aware that December 2 is also the first Sunday of Advent. This year, we are planning to observe the day in a different way.  We plan to conduct an awareness walk downtown in the early afternoon which will culminate with a short memorial service and a bell ringing in memory of those who have passed due to this horrible disease.  The short walk will cover about 7/10th of a mile and will kick off at 1:00 pm.We plan to gather at Sophia and Hanover Streets, leave at 1:00 pm, and follow the route shown on the map attached to Market Square.  Once we are in Market Square, we will have a short memorial service, including a bell ringing in memory of those that have passed.  It is our hope that members of the churches in town with Sunday services would join us after worship and that the congregations of faiths that worship on Friday, Saturday or other days would also participate.  We invite people to join us at any point of the walk or for the memorial service.  It would be great if participants could wear red, but we will have red HIV/AIDS awareness ribbons available as well.
