"Everyone can be great because everyone can serve."  Martin Luther King, Jr

The Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department recently held its 25th Annual Banquet honoring volunteers and community partners. The event held at the Fredericksburg Hospitality House, bestows gifts and certificates, and a big thank you to those that help support departments various programs throughout the year.

The volunteers and community partners are so valuable that if you were to put a dollar amount on their contributions it would total over $500,000.

Volunteering has a meaningful, positive impact on the community. But did you know that it can have many benefits for you too? Perhaps the first and biggest benefit people get from volunteering is the satisfaction of incorporating service into their lives and making a difference in their community and country. The intangible benefits alone—such as pride, satisfaction and accomplishment—are worthwhile reasons to serve. In addition, when we share our time and talents, we:

  • Solve problems
  • Strengthen communities
  • Improve lives
  • Connect to others
  • Transform our own lives

In addition to honoring its volunteers and community partners, the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation department also helped raise over $600 for the Fredericksburg SPCA with its Paws & Whiskers Bazaar. The first annual event held on Nov. 5th held a silent auction with all proceeds benefiting the local shelter.

Thanks again to all of our volunteers and partners! Our programs depend on your support.
