You will have to excuse the lag time between my blog posts, but between planning events for the Parks and Recreation Dept. and running my four year old from soccer to b-day parties and everywhere else in between this great city of ours, my poor blog gets neglected.
That being said we had a ton of great events that rounded out the summer and a lot of great events that will help us end the year with a bang! Literally, as Fredericksburg First Night will have a spectacular fireworks display that will help us say goodbye to 2012 and welcome 2013.
With Halloween right around the corner, Linda Bailey, our Nature Coordinator, has the annual Spooky Stories by the Shore coming up Friday, Oct. 26, from 7 - 8 p.m. at Motts Run Reservoir. Is there a better way to celebrate Halloween than on the banks of Motts Run Reservoir by a hot fire, roasting marshmallows and listening to scary stories about All Hallow’s Eve? This evening starts off with a walk along the trails of Motts complete with spooks and spiders to the shore for some fun and storytelling. Best suited for ages 5 and up as some costumes may be too scary for some youngsters. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight and blanket. The cost is $5 and everyone must pre-register.
If you are interested in more information or perhaps a kid’s perspective on this event, you can check out our kid blogger Sara’s post about Spooky Stories by the shore at www.sarasnb.blogspot.com.
If enjoying the good old outdoors isn’t your thing, than join us at the Dorothy Hart Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. for our Fall FUN Festival. We will be celebrating all things Fall and Fun with this indoor event: games, crafts, a cupcake walk and more. Suitable for all ages. There is a $5 fee for children and parents are free.
Come bring in the New Year with us at Fredericksburg First Night. Perfect for families, this non-alcoholic celebration of the arts feature over 25 venues, 40 entertainment acts and a children’s block filled with fun inflatables, face painting, a parade and more.
