Hilda Oberhofer, 98

Hildegarde F. “Hilda” Oberhofer, 98, of Fredericksburg died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Oberhofer was the widow of the late Julias Thomas Oberhofer. She the first woman air traffic controller in the eastern United States at LaGuardia Airport for five years. She taught in a one-room country school house for one year and fourth grade in Malvern, New York for 27 years. Mrs. Oberhofer was a member of the Fredericksburg Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Ann Reddick and husband Robert Welch of Aquia Harbour; sister Mildred Louise Pearce-Jones-Land of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Richardson and husband Kevin, Kristie Lynn Reddick, and Brandon Robert Reddick and wife Laura; and three great-grandchildren, Corbin Thomas Richardson, Emily Kate Richardson and Maddox James Richardson.

A service will be held at 11am Thursday, June 19 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
