Wendell Johnson, 90

Wendell LeRoy Johnson, 90, of Spotsylvania County passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Wisconsin.  He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.  He  served as a congressional administrative assistant to Alvin E. O’Konski of the 10thDistrict in Wisconsin for more than 20 years.  During that time he designed the congressional member seal.  He later worked with the Small Business Administration and then was a senior executive with the Dept. of the Navy serving under John Warner. 

Mr. Johnson was a member and past commander of DAV Chapter 48 in Woodbridge, and a member of Spotsylvania American Legion Post #320.  He was a member of the Anglican Church in Woodbridge.   He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary C. Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Stafford Johnson; three children William Kent Johnson (Dorothy) of Manassas, Marah Huestis of Dumfries and Wendell Lee Johnson (Eileen) of Centreville; two brothers Rev. R. Dean Johnson of Georgia and Donald K. Johnson of Florida. eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed., April 2 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at Noon on Thurs., April 3 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
