$1,000 Stolen at Knifepoint

New details come to light surrounding an Aug. 28 armed robbery in Mayfield.

Police say an acquaintance-turned-robber made off with more than $1,000 in cash from his victim in an armed robbery in Mayfield on Saturday afternoon, however the victim did not report the theft until hours after the incident. The amount of cash involved in the robbery and the amount of time which passed before the victim reported the crime have police wondering if they know all the details.

"For whatever reason, our victim chose not to report the incident, but went to her parent's house and called us, by her own account, approximately four hours after this happened," said Natatia Bledsoe, public information officer with the Fredericksburg Police Department.

The armed robbery took place at the 200 block of Harris Street on Aug. 28. According to police, at around 2 p.m., the 25-year-old female victim was approached by an acquaintance of hers at the Dixon Street 7-11. The man, 23-year-old Spotsylvania resident Andre Carey, asked to hitch a ride a few blocks over to Harris Street.

Once the victim had taken Carey to Harris Street, Harris pulled out a knife and demanded all of her money. The victim cooperated with Carey and handed over the large wad of cash. Carey then exited the car and left the scene in a different car parked nearby.

Carey had not been arrested as of yesterday afternoon. He is sought on charges of felony robbery.
