Apartment Fire: Seven Residents Displaced After Sunday Blaze

Fire crews arrived to smoke and fire coming from a window, according to Fredericksburg Fire Department.

A fire in a Fredericksburg apartment Sunday displaced seven residents, including two small children, according to the Fredericksburg Fire Department.

Fire crews from Fredericksburg and Stafford County quickly extinguished the blaze at the Fall Hill Apartments off Wicklow Drive, according to Deputy Fire Chief Michael Jones.

The call came in at 6:07 p.m., with one occupant stating that there was heavy smoke inside the apartment.

"The first arriving City units reported smoke and fire coming from a window on the second floor of the apartment building at the rear," Jones said in a release.

No fire extended outside of the one unit involved, Jones said. All apartments on each level were checked multiple times to make sure all occupants had made it outside safely.

The building was checked following the fire to make sure the fire hadn't spread and other residents in the building were allowed to return to their units.

The Fire Marshal’s Office of the Fredericksburg Fire Department determined the origin of the fire appears to be a bedroom area in the apartment. The cause is still under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office, Jones said.
