Armed Man Arrested Impersonating Officer

Suspect had tactical equipment, guns and badges in car.

A man impersonating a law enforcement officer was caught after flashing a badge and gun at residents in the Foxwood Village subdivision in Stafford County. Stafford County Sheriff's charged Craig McSween with impersonating an officer, brandishing a firearm and driving on a suspended license.

A press release from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office says that on Saturday May 7, around 12:15 p.m., a resident reported McSween's silver Chevy Impala driving very slowly through the neighborhood, flashing a badge as he drove past the witness' house. McSween shortly thereafter returned to the house, got out of his car and brandished a handgun on his hip by lifting up his shirt. McSween then allegedly accused the witness of driving recklessly and identified himself as an employee of a federal law enforcement agency.

McSween left after his advances were rebuffed when the witness asked to see his credentials.

Police caught up with McSween, age 38, who was arrested without incident. A search of McSween and his car turned up several badges, a tactical vest, a second handgun and red and white dash board lights.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is asking members of the public who may have been approached by McSween masquerading as a law enforcement officer to report those incidents by calling 540-658-4400.
