Question: Why is there a yield sign at Washington Avenue and William Street near the cemetery? It's a one-way street and the yield sign doesn't make any sense to me. Get rid of that thing.

Answer: Motorists approaching William Street on Washington Avenue may turn either right or left onto William Street. Motorists turning left must yield to east bound through traffic on William Street and to motorists turning left from William Street onto Washington Avenue, thus the Yield sign. Motorists turning right from Washington Avenue  may proceed with caution at the intersection. It would be difficult and potentially confusing to attempt to convey through signs that motorists turning left must yield, but motorists turning right may proceed.

Question: How do you go about requesting a pedestrian crossing or one of those pedestrian crossing signs?

Answer: Requests for an additional crosswalk or for a mid-street Yield to Pedestrians sign may be submitted to Director of Public Works Doug Fawcett (540-372-1023; dfawcett@fredericksburgva.gov ).
