Attempted Kidnapper At-Large

Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a man who tried to kidnap a young girl at knifepoint.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man they say tried to kidnap a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint.

The incident began around 6:30 a.m. on October 13 in the 7000 block of Pullen Drive in Spotsylvania County. The girl told police that she had been walking to a neighbors house to catch a ride to school when a blue four door car, possibly a Toyota Camry, approached her and stopped. She told police that a hispanic man then got out of the driver's side door and and approached the girl while wielding a six inch box cutter and told her to get in the car.

The girl dropped her bookbag and ran back home while the suspect drove away.

The girl told police that she had seen the man drive past her home several times over the summer and was confident that she could recognize the suspect if she saw him again.

The suspect is described as a hispanic man standing about six feet tall and weighing 220 pounds with short black hair, blue eyes and no facial hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Sheriff's deputies began to canvass the area and located a vehicle matching the description provided by the girl at a neighborhood home.

"Interviews were conducted with the residents and they appeared nervous and suspicious when questioned," according to a press release from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

While conducting their investigation, Detective Leonord Short began searching the sheriff's criminal information database and came across a photo of one of the residents of the home where the matching vehicle was found. Short then assembled a phone lineup and the girl was able to pick out one of the pictures as the man who tried to abduct her.

Short obtained a warrant against the man, 26-year-old Spotsylvania resident Jacinto Hernandez-Andrades, for attempted abduction by force.

Deputies searched a number of locations last night, but were unable to track him down.
