Brother Stabbed In Violent Fight At Local Bar

The bouncer at Grapevine Cafe at 622 Kenmore St. closed the bar and made all patrons leave after the fight.

A large fight that erupted at Grapevine Cafe on June 9 resulted in one man getting stabbed and another man getting slashed with a broken beer bottle, which forced the bouncer to shut down the bar for the evening and send all patrons home.

Fredericksburg Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the incident happened at about 1:25 a.m. at the bar/restaurant at 622 Kenmore St. The original report was a fight with possible gunfire, she said.

"When police arrived on the scene, a large group of subjects was in the street actively engaged in a physical altercation, but most of the participants dispersed as officers pulled up," Bledsoe said. "Two officers stopped a vehicle that was leaving with four male occupants, and it was discovered that one of the passengers had suffered three stab wounds during the altercation."

Bledsoe said another passenger in the vehicle, who is the brother of the man who got stabbed, told police that he was assaulted in the bar and when his brother came to help him, a larger fight broke out. The victim who was stabbed could not describe the attackers, Bledsoe said.

"A bouncer reported that when the fight started, he ordered the bar closed and sent all of the patrons outside. While this was occurring, the bouncer reported that he heard several gunshots from somewhere out on the street near the business," Bledsoe said. "The bouncer also directed police to a second assault victim inside the bar, who reported that when the fight broke out an unknown person hit him on the head with a beer bottle and then slashed him across the back with the broken bottle. Both stabbing victims were treated by rescue squad personnel and transported to the hospital."
