Campground Sex Assault Suspect Arrested

7-year-old victim was assaulted in bathroom, suspect located four days later at same campground, according to Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities have arrested the suspect in the sexual battery of a boy at the Indian Acres Campground, according to Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Edward Alsop, 49, of Spotsylvania, is charged with felony Aggravated Sexual Battery and misdemeanor Assault and Battery. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On Sunday, deputies responded to the campground in the 6400 block of Morris Road regarding the sexual assault of a seven-year-old victim in a campground bathroom. The suspect had reportedly threatened the boy with a knife.

Campground security and deputies were initially unsuccessful located the suspect, but they were able to collect security camera footage and a witness description of the vehicle he was seen leaving in.

On Thursday, deputies found Alsop in Indian Acres. He was reportedly still wearing the same clothing described by the victim, as well as a knife similar to one described by the victim.

Sheriff Roger Harris noted in a statement that, “the cooperative efforts between law enforcement and corporate security personnel led to the successful resolution of this case and the arrest of a dangerous criminal."
