Car Ruptures Gas Line, Houses Evacuated

Several homes evacuated after a minivan strikes a gas meter off of Dixon Street.

About a dozen people were evacuated from their homes earlier today as a minivan ruptured a gas line at a Dixon Street home.

The Fredericksburg Fire Department was dispatched to 1109 Dixon Street at around 4:12 p.m. to respond to the incident. When they arrived, they found a minivan parked in the rear of the house had slipped out of gear and struck the gas meter on the home. The meter was ripped from its post and the gas lines feeding it were ruptured.

Very little damage was done to the structure itself. Traffic on Dixon Street was re-routed through Mayfield around the incident for about half an hour as crews worked on the scene.
