The incident left one man wounded, but not seriously. During the course of the investigation three other men found nearby were detained.

Police say the wounded man will be charged with possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony, reckless discharge of a weapon, and discharging a firearm within city limits.

A second man will be charged with malicious wounding, reckless discharge of a weapon and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Police have not yet released the identities of the suspects.

According to Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson Natatia Bledsoe, multiple area residents called 911 at around 5:17 p.m. on January 3 to report gunfire. When police arrived, they found a 27-year-old man bearing a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder. The victim was transported to Mary Washington Hospital.

One eyewitness was standing on her porch when the shooting began. She says she ran inside for cover when she heard the shots and called police immediately.

When police arrived, they found the injured man and transported him to the hospital by ambulance. They also found a man standing in the street holding a weapon. Police immediately detained the man, but he was later released without charges.

Two other men were detained at the scene for questioning but were later released without charges.

Police found two guns at the scene believed to have been used during the shooting.

Police say their initial investigation reveales that the injured man and the armed man taken into custody were arguing over a personal dispute. The argument became physical and both men drew guns and exchanged fire. The injured man retreated into his home before police arrived.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. Identities of those charged will be released once court documents are in hand.
