City Schools Release Letter in Response to Newtown Shootings

The letter was sent as an FCPS eAlert and posted on the school district's website.

Fredericksburg City Public Schools sent a letter to parents and guardians late Monday, in response to the tragic school shootings in Newtown, Conn.

"We realize that the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut have many of us saddened, confused, and concerned," the letter began. "During this difficult time, our thoughts and sympathy are with those who are suffering through this tragedy."

"We understand and support that you may have shared information about this event with your children this weekend in a way that you believe is best for them.  Throughout the week our teachers and staff will provide comfort and information when students need them. Our Central Office team and the Sheriff and Police departments will have an increased presence at our schools. Our school counselors, school psychologists, and school administrators will be ready to offer support to any children who need additional reassurance."

Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact their school, the letter said.

The complete letter is available on the school district's website.
