Dogged Victim Gets Hit-and-Run Suspects Busted

Two men were arrested Sunday after a hit-and-run incident on U.S. 1 Sunday night when the victim followed them to University of Mary Washington.

While at a traffic light on U.S. 1 north at College Avenue Sunday night, a red Chevrolet Cavalier with two men inside had rear-ended a Stafford man's 1997 Nissan and then sped away.

Fredericksburg Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the victim, a 30-year-old man, followed the Cavalier, but lost sight of the car near University of Mary Washington. The victim called 911 to report the incident and police found a vehicle matching the description without anyone in it at the 900 block of Madison Street and noticed that the vehicle had front-end damage. The victim's car had about $1,500 in damage.

The two men were later spotted walking toward the university at the Sunken Road gate and with the help of UMW police one of them was detained outside the campus fitness center. The second suspect was detained near the UMW parking garage.
