The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office added a new member to its force, thanks to a $7,000 gift from the Spotsylvania Eagles Lodge.
Eagle 2 -- a K9 -- and handler Deputy DJ Hart will work in the schools for drug and weapons searches, and work crimes on the street, including missing children.
“This is a huge benefit to the Sheriff’s Office and the general public," Sheriff Roger Harris said. "We are grateful to the Eagles for their support to ensure continued public service and safety," he said.
The new K-9 and his handler will attend weeks of training before beginning work.
