Fire Destroys Sagun Drive Home in Spotsylvania

Two dogs rescued from blaze in unoccupied home; whereabouts of cats unknown

A fire destroyed a one-story home Thursday night in the 200 block of Sagun Drive in Spotsylvania County.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the blaze or the exact dollar amount of damage to the home.

No one was inside the house when it caught fire, said the homeowner's son, Ryan Ortego.

Ortego said he came home to find fire coming through the roof of the house, and ran to open the door so the two dogs inside could escape. One of the dogs got out on its own after he opened the door.

At least four Spotsylvania County units and one tower truck responded and found heavy fire coming through the roof of the home. Firefighters rescued a second dog upon arrival.
