Update Dec. 30: Fire Truck Driver Cleared in Pedestrian Death

A fire truck struck a pedestrian crossing in the 500 block of Warrenton Road Friday night, as the Stafford County Fire & Rescue Department crew was responding to an auto accident on I-95.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the male pedestrian was not using a crosswalk and was in a darkened section of the six lane road when he was struck," said Bill Kennedy, public information officer for the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.  "The driver of the fire truck tried but was unable to evade the pedestrian."

The man died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.  The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

"The identity of the pedestrian who was struck and the identity of the driver of the fire truck are not being released," Kennedy said.  "This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information will be made available at this time."
