Fourth Suspect, New Arrest in Altoona Robbery

Police report the arrest of a third suspect in the violent armed robbery of a cancer stricken man on Altoona Drive, also identify a fourth suspect involved and still at-large.

Police have arrested a third suspect and identified a new, fourth suspect in yesterdays violent armed robbery on Altoona Drive.

Earlier this evening police arrested 23-year-old David Arrington at a home without incident. Fredericksburg police have secured a warrant for David's brother, 24-year-old Jeremy Arrington. Police are currently unaware of his whereabouts, but report that he was last seen in Spotsylvania County.

David Arrington will be transferred to Rappahannock Regional Jail. He stands charged with robbery and use of a firearm in a felony.

"We feel comfortable that we will locate the remaining Mr. Arrington soon," said Natatia Bledsoe, public information officer for the Fredericksburg Police Department.

During the arrest of David Arrington, police recovered a gun and a collapsable baton they say were used during the home invasion robbery, as well as the getaway car, a white SUV.

"At this point we have a bunch of evidence, the two weapons, the vehicles, but a fourth suspect is still at large," said Bledsoe.

Earlier today, police announced the arrest of Christopher Deviers and Chad Lumpkins, both 25 years old and from Spotsylvania, in connection with the robbery. They face charges of robbery and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police say three of the four men pushed their way inside a home on the 300 block of Altoona Drive on Aug. 15 around 5:45 p.m. One of the suspects brandished a handgun, pointing it at the victim, and demanded that he hand over money and prescription medications used to treat his cancer. The victim cannot speak, a result of his vocal chords being removed because of his cancer.

Police say the victim resisted at first, at which point one of the three robbers struck the victim repeatedly across the torso until he complied with their demands, turning over the medicine and the cash in his pocket. Police were alerted to the incident by another resident of the house who heard the ruckus and called 911.

The suspects ran from the house and left driving in a white SUV. Police believe the fourth suspect stayed with the car during the robbery. A neighbor was able to provide police with a partial license plate number for the fleeing vehicle, which aided in the investigation.

"We beleive that one of the four remained with the vehicle," said Bledsoe. "That's not certain, but that is our current understanding of how things work."

According to Fredericksburg City Police Public Information Officer Natatia Bledsoe, the victim is suffering from end-stage cancer. The victim cannot speak because his vocal chords were removed in an attempt to treat the cancer.

Police are still not releasing mugshots for fear of tainting the results of photo lineups which may be used to identify the suspects.

Correction: Chad Lumpkins' last name was misspelled in an earlier version of this story and the error has been corrected.
