Fredericksburg Couple Arrested in DUI Incident

Husband and wife charged with alcohol and driving offenses after Sunday incident, police say.

Fredericksburg Police say a local man was charged with driving under the influence Sunday after allegedly damaging two buildings, and his wife was also arrested for trying to cover up the incident.

Police arrived 8:40 p.m. Sunday to 1503 Princess Anne St. and found a blue Chevy van had crashed in the wall. Next to it was a green Ford Explorer that had hit another nearby building. The van had struck the parked Explorer before the accident, and the impact apparently pushed it into the building.

Police believed at first that Carla Sue McManious, 47, was driving the van when it crashed, due to statements made at the scene, said Natatia Bledsoe, a public information officer with the Fredericksburg Police Department.

However, witnesses said her husband, Timothy McManious, 45, was the driver. He was taken to the hospital with "significant injuries," according to the police department. Police charged him with a DUI, driving while revoked, and reckless driving.

Police said they also arrested Carla Sue McManious on grounds of public intoxication and obstruction of justice. She was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held on a $1,500 bond.
