Fredericksburg Man Dies in I-95 Crash

Two other Fredericksburg residents were seriously injured in the crash.

At 11:15 a.m. Jan. 24, a Nissan Versa was southbound on I-95 when it ran off the left side of the road and struck the Jersey wall’s crash attenuator near Exit 152 at Dumfries in Prince William County.

The impact caused the Versa to become airborne, overturn and land on a Honda Civic that was also headed south on I-95, Virginia State Police said.

The driver of the Civic, Matthew Wilkerson, 37, of Fredericksburg, died at the scene.

The driver of the Versa, Greg S. Hall, 24, of Fredericksburg, and his mother, Lesa Hall, 53, of Fredericksburg, were both flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time. Charges are pending, Virginia State Police said.

All southbound lanes of I-95 were re-opened by 3:45 p.m.
