Grandmother Brings Baby to ER with Multiple Injuries

Mother's boyfriend charged with felony child abuse, police said.

A grandmother brought a four-month-old baby to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center on Dec. 17 with multiple fractured ribs and other injuries.

"Officers were called to investigate," said Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department public information officer.

Police determined the infant was living with his mother and the mother’s boyfriend in a room at Dunning Mills Inn.

"After locating and interviewing the mother’s boyfriend, detectives arrested William Schmuhl, 23, of no fixed address, for felony child abuse," Bledsoe said.

Schmuhl was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. The investigation is ongoing.
