Homicide Investigation After Woman's Body Found

Employer contacted police when woman did not show up for work, according to Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators are working at the scene of a possible homicide after a woman's body was discovered late Sunday night in her home, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was identified as Nancy Mercer, 58, of the 7800 block of Eastridge Way. Information on the cause of death is being withheld pending an autopsy, according to SCSO spokesperson Capt. Jeff Pearce.

Deputies were responding to a "check welfare" call made by Mercer's employer when she didn't show up for work, according to Pearce. Her body was discovered on the floor inside the home.

Pearce noted the case is being investigated as a homicide. No suspects have been identified, but Detectives are following up on leads developed at the scene.
