Police: Incendiary Device Explodes in Normandy Ave. Home

Detectives and the Fire Marshal are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.

The Fredericksburg Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported explosion inside a home in the 3100 block of Normandy Avenue at about 4 a.m. Tuesday, reported Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department Public Information Officer.

"The occupant of the home, an adult female, was not injured and evacuated the home safely, along with her dog," said Bledsoe. Fire personnel found smoke inside the home and damage to the interior of the single story residence, according to Bledose. 

The investigation has determined that a homemade incendiary device was placed or thrown inside the home and subsequently detonated, according to police.

A bomb dog from the Virginia State Police responded to the crime scene, and no additional devices were located.

A number of detectives and the Fire Marshal are currently on the scene collecting evidence and continuing the investigation.
