Jar Allegedly Filled with Moonshine Used to Assault Two Men

Warren Hovermale of Chesterfield was charged with two counts of malicious wounding, police said.

Two men were transported to Mary Washington Hospital early Sunday morning after being struck in the head with a jar, allegedly filled with moonshine. 

Fredericksburg Police responded at 1:45 a.m. Dec. 22 for reports of a possible stabbing at the Hospitality House, 2801 Plank Rd., according to Fredericksburg Police Public Information Officer Natatia Bledsoe.

Officers found two injured men outside one of the rooms, both bleeding severely from head wounds.  One victim was unconscious.

"A witness said he and his friends, including the two victims, were standing outside talking when they were approached by another male they didn’t know," Bledsoe said. "The unknown man had a glass jar in his hand that reportedly contained homemade moonshine."

An argument broke out, and the unknown man struck both victims in the head with the jar, then fled, Bledsoe said.

Witnesses provided a description of the assailant and a short time later an officer located the suspect walking on Commerce Street. Warren Hovermale, 35, of Chesterfield, Va., was arrested and charged with two counts of malicious wounding. Hovermale was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
