Two Arrested for Assault with BB Gun

A city resident was playing basketball with a friend when he was allegedly shot without warning or provocation.

A 20-year-old city resident reported that he and a friend were playing basketball about 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 1000 block of Heritage Park when he was shot multiple times with a BB gun.

The two playing basketball were approached by a male and female known to them through school, Natatia Bledsoe, City of Fredericksburg Police spokesperson, said. "Without warning or provocation, the male and then the female shot the victim multiple times with a BB gun, striking him in the face, arm and torso," Bledsoe said.

The subjects left the area on foot, and the victim called police after returning to his apartment. Both the victim and his friend were able to identify the suspects by name and other details. The victim denied the need for a rescue squad.

The male suspect, a 15-year-old student, was taken into custody later that night when an officer saw him walking on Fall Hill Ave. A BB gun was recovered from the backpack he was carrying. The juvenile was placed in the Juvenile Detention Center under charges of malicious wounding and brandishing a firearm.  The juvenile may face additional charges related to drugs
and other items that were also recovered from the backpack, Bledsoe said.

The female suspect, Whitney Fox, 18, of Fredericksburg, was arrested the next morning at school and charged with malicious wounding, brandishing a firearm, discharging a firearm within the city limits, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Fox was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
