Man Assaults Police Officer During Arrest
David Blanchard was charged with domestic assault, assault on law enforcement and escape from custody.
Fredericksburg police responded about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 17 to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 3400 block of Fall Hill Avenue.
"David Blanchard, 26, was taken into custody for domestic assault and battery," said Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department public information officer.
"While Blanchard was being placed into the patrol vehicle, he pushed his body into the arresting officer and caused her to lose her grip on his arm," Bledsoe said. Blanchard fled the scene into the woods surrounding his home.

Officers searched the area on foot, with the assistance of a city police K-9 team and a bloodhound from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office. Blanchard was located about two hours later, and arrested without further incident, Bledsoe said.
In addition to the charge for domestic assault, Blanchard was also charged with assault on law enforcement and escape from custody. He was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
