Man Charged in Deadly Crash on I-95 in Stafford

Virginia State Police said the crash is still under investigation.

Virginia State Police have charged a Hampton, Va., man with reckless driving in a Tuesday morning four-vehicle crash on I-95 which killed one, injured two and snarled the morning commute for hours.

"At 5:27 a.m., Virginia State Police were called to a multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of I-95 at 135 mile marker in Stafford County," Corinne N. Geller, public relations director with the Virginia State Police, said.

"A 2004 Mercury sedan was traveling south on Interstate 95 when it ran off the left side of the highway," Geller said. "The car crossed through the median, struck an embankment, and continued into the northbound lanes of I-95 where it struck a 2010 Toyota sedan."

"The Toyota subsequently collided with a northbound 2008 Chevrolet HHR and then a northbound 2013 two-axle box truck," Geller said.

"Quite a commute in this morning," wrote John on Facebook. A four car accident blocking all three lanes. We got by on the shoulder. Three of the cars rolled repeatedly, and one was split in two (front and back). Eleven police cars, four fire trucks and a crane to right the cars. Glass and shredded metal everywhere."

The driver of the Mercury, Ty Shaun L. Holloway, 20, of Hampton, Va., was transported to Stafford Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Geller said. "Holloway has been charged with reckless driving," she said.

His passenger, Dejonniza Q. White, 20, of Bronx, N.Y., died at the scene.

"The driver of the Toyota, David J. Schwartz, 36, of Fredericksburg, Va., was transported to Stafford Hospital and has already been treated and released," Geller said.

The drivers of the Chevrolet and box truck were not injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Geller said.
