Marine Corps Base Quantico Noise Advisory

The booming heard across Fredericksburg is from Quantico.

The loud booming noises heard across the area Wednesday afternoon are most likely from explosive munitions operations at Quantico, said City of Fredericksburg Police Public Information Officer Natatia Bledsoe.

"Residents in the immediate vicinity of Marine Corps Base Quantico may experience an increase in noise as an affect from training or range clearance operations from Nov. 26 – Nov. 30," the base said in a noise advisory issued this week.

The trainings are scheduled 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily, depending on weather conditions.  Overcast conditions may increase noise and vibrations, Quantico said.

I heard them this afternoon in Braehead Woods. I am a Vietnam Vet - Artillery - and it sounded much like Artillery fire used to sound in the distance.

I heard them about 3pm while going into the library. I wondered if we were under attack, then figured it was from Quantico.
