Ni River Middle School Coach Allegedly Assaults Student

Twelve-year-old kicked and knocked down by coach during practice, said law enforcement.

A 12-year-old student at Ni River Middle School in Spotsylvania County was allegedly assaulted by a volunteer coach during football practice on Oct. 16, according to Cpt. Mike Harvey of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

During football practice the volunteer coach kicked the player, knocking him to the ground, according to Harvey.

Harvey said in a release when the student was picked up by his father, the father confronted the coach and assaulted him.

A 21-year-old white male of Spotsylvania, a volunteer coach with the Ni River Middle School Football team, was charged with a felony cruelty and injuries to children (Virginia Code Section 40.1-103). He has not been arrested on these charges at this time, but has been terminated of his duties by Spotsylvania County Schools and banned from school property, according to Cpt. Harvey.

The father was charged with assault and battery (Virginia Code section 18.2-57). He has not been arrested on these charges at this time.

"This case had a swift resolution due to the cooperation between school administration and the Sheriff’s Office," said Cpt. Harvey.
