Woman Bites, Breaks Police Officer's Hand

A woman allegedly resisted arrest by biting a Fredericksburg Police Officer's left hand.
Officer Corey Dobson had responded to Townsend Square Apartments about 9:50 p.m. Jan. 19, for a reported disturbance between roommates.
"While Officer Dobson was speaking to the male party involved, the female roommate repeatedly advanced upon the officer," said Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department public information officer. "At one point the woman stepped in front of Officer Dobson and tried to push him out of the way with her elbow."

When Dobson attempted to take the female into custody, she continued to resist and bit him in the hand.
"Officer Dobson had to forcibly remove his hand from the woman's mouth," Bledsoe said. In the course of being bitten or forcibly removing his hand, the officer's hand fractured. "It was his left hand and he is left handed," Bledsoe said.

A second patrol unit subdued the suspect.
Officer Dobson was taken to Mary Washington Hospital for stitches, treatment of his broken hand and a blood test to check for infectious diseases that could be transmitted by a human bite.
Shenita Brower, 36, of Fredericksburg, was arrested for felony assault on a law enforcement officer. She was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
