Police Arrest Suspect in Mayfield Shooting

FBI agents, city detectives close in on suspect throughout the week.

Fredericksburg police have identified and arrested a suspect in the early Saturday morning shooting in Mayfield which left one man wounded. 

Around 1:45 a.m. on the 200 block of Frazier street on Sept. 10, police say the victim, a 47-year-old man from Stafford County was driving through Mayfield with his girlfriend when they were stopped by an unknown man flagging them down. The victim got out of his car to see what was going on, but an argument ensued and the victim was shot in the back of his thigh as he was running away. The victim and his girlfriend then drove to Mary Washington Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. which police say were not life threatening. 

The victim was able to describe his assailant as a black man with dreadlocks.

In the days after the shooting, police began to develop Spotsylvania resident Dontae Reon Jackson as the primary suspect and obtained warrants seeking his arrest. 

In the early morning hours of Sept. 16, detectives with the Fredericksburg Police Department and agents with the FBI located Jackson at the Wawa on 2390 Plank Road where he was arrested.

Jackson stands charged with malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and using a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
