Police: Missing Ear Closes Interstate 95

Man bites off a friend's ear in argument, spits ear into traffic.

Spotsylvania Sheriff’s deputies briefly closed a half-mile of I-95 southbound Thursday morning to locate the ear bitten off a man during an argument.

“Two buddies were driving together when they got into an argument,” Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s office said. The driver pulled over near mile marker 123 just before the Spotsylvania exit and the men fought along the shoulder, Pearce said.

“We received 9-1-1 calls at 8:02 a.m. reporting a man wandering in traffic bleeding profusely from the head,” Pearce said. Found around mile marker 121, the man told authorities his friend had bitten off his ear in the argument and spit it into the I-95 travel lanes; he was looking for it.

“Deputies closed I-95 and located the ear in the vicinity indicated by the victim,” Pearce said. The interstate was closed for about 14 minutes. The man and his ear were transported to Mary Washington Hospital.

“Based on a description of the vehicle, the suspect was located in his car about one mile down the road,” Pearce said.  Floyd Warren, 31, of the Bronx, New York was charged with malicious wounding and transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail.
