Police Say Man Stabs Himself To Avoid Arrest

A man wanted on a warrant for an outstanding warrant for domestic assault and battery as well as a probation violation

Fredericksburg Police say a man allegedly stabbed himself and filed a fake police report for an assault to avoid going to jail on an outstanding warrant.

Dante Rojas, 23, of Fredericksburg, called 911 at 9 a.m. to report that he was assaulted and stabbed on Rann Court at the Central Park townhomes, said the police department's spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe. While Rojas was being treated for the stab wound, police officers and a Stafford County canine searched the area for the suspect.

Bledsoe said the subsequent investigation led police to believe that Rojas stabbed himself in an attempt to avoid jail for an outstanding warrant for domestic assault and battery as well as a probation violation. Police arrested Rojas for the charge of filing a false police report. Bledsoe said Rojas is now jailed at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

"Mr. Rojas had a pending probation violation which he apparently believed could be avoided if he was hospitalized and receiving treatment," Bledsoe said. "The self-inflicted wound turned out to be useless to his intention however, because the pending domestic assault warrant was going to send him to jail anyway."
