Stafford County Sheriff's Office also suggests residents ask for identification when unsure if an individual is a law enforcement officer. "Verify the agency by reading the name on the ID or badge as well as the patch," according to a statement. "A generic badge will simply say Police or Investigator.  A real badge will usually include the name of the agency. If you still question the authenticity call 9-1-1 and asked the dispatcher to verify the identity of the individual."
