Police: Stabbing in Drug Deal Gone Wrong

Victim's claim of an attempted robbery at the ATM turned out to be false, according to Fredericksburg Police.

Fredericksburg City Police is investigating a stabbing Monday evening in what appears to have been a drug deal gone wrong.

The victim, a 34-year-old Stafford man, had first told police he was stabbed in the leg during an attempted robbery at the ATM machine at NSWC Credit Union at the Eagle Village Shopping Center.

Police noted Tuesday that the victim's story had changed. Instead, he was stabbed in the vacant Wonder Bread building on Powhatan Street, where he had met the offender to purchase narcotics, according to Fredericksburg Police.

An altercation ensued and the victim was stabbed during the fight. He was treated at Mary Washington Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as a stocky white male, 5'11", bald with a goatee and wearing a tan hoodie and jeans. Anyone with information can call 540-373-3122.
