Road Rage Incident Leads to Arrest for 'Brandishing a Firearm'

The truck driver who allegedly threatened to shoot the moped driver went to police headquarters to report the incident.

A moped driver was threatened at gunpoint after exchanging angry words with the driver of a truck, Fredericksburg police reported.

The moped driver told police a silver truck passed him at a high rate of speed in the 900 block of Lafayette Blvd. at about 10 a.m. Friday morning. "As he arrived at his workplace, the moped driver saw the truck stopped at the adjacent traffic light; he exchanged angry words with the driver through the open passenger side window," Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg police spokesperson, said.

The truck’s driver then allegedly pulled into the parking lot of Colonial Tavern, got out of the vehicle with a gun in his hand, and threatened to shoot the victim, Bledsoe said. The offender got back into his truck and left the scene as the victim called 911.

"Another man witnessed the altercation and followed the truck as far as Hanover Street before returning to the scene and providing his information to police," Bledsoe said.

Officers checked the area for the silver truck but were unable to locate it or the driver.  "While officers were searching for the truck, the offender arrived at Police Headquarters to speak to an officer about the incident," Bledsoe said.

Ivan Lee Samuels, 66, of Spotsylvania was arrested for brandishing a firearm and released by the magistrate on a $2,500 bond. The firearm, which was
found inside Samuels’ truck, was seized for evidence, Bledsoe said.
