Scooter Crash Leaves Driver with Life-Threatening Injuries

Witnesses said the scooter driver pulled in front of a pickup truck.

A 58-year-old Fredericksburg man was transported to Mary Washington Hospital Wednesday morning, after the scooter he was driving crashed with a pickup truck.

"Witnesses report that the Chevrolet truck was traveling in the right lane at a safe rate of speed when the driver of the scooter turned suddenly from the left lane directly into the path of the truck," Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson, said.

The crash occurred at about 11:40 a.m. in the 1100 block of Princess Anne Street, which is one-way at that location.

"The driver of the scooter was wearing a helmet, but the helmet came off at impact," Bledsoe said.

Charges are not expected to be filed against the driver of the pickup, who is a 31-year-old man from Spotsylvania.  Princess Anne Street was closed for approximately 40 minutes while emergency personnel were on the scene.
