Search Leads to Pair of Suspects

Deputies, helicopter used to nab teens suspected of breaking and entering and drug charges.

A call-in tip led sheriff's deputies to a pair of suspects in an alleged breaking and entering Thursday morning in Stafford. Apprehending the suspects became a major task.

After the 10:21 a.m. tip, deputies went to a house on Flewellen Drive in the Park Ridge area of Stafford, according to Bill Kennedy, sheriff spokesman. The caller had noticed suspicious activity at the home. Deputies Rebecca Hallam and Chris Brown spotted the suspects in the area. The suspects ran when they saw the deputies, Kennedy said. Hallam apprehended one suspect, Joey Earl Wilkins, but the other man got away.

Additional deputies arrived and set up a perimeter and a Fairfax County Police helicopter was brought in for the search, Kennedy said. The suspect was not found, but he was identified as Mark Tyler Lewis and arrested at about 2:45 p.m. at his home.

Wilkins, 19, of 125 Shenandoah Lane and Lewis, 19, of Knollside Court face charges of breaking and entering, conspiracy to commit larceny, larceny, underage possession of alcohol, vandalism and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to Kennedy.

Both were taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Lewis suffered an injury, apparently during the breaking and entering, and was treated at an area hospital before being taken to jail, Kennedy said.
