Sheriff's Office Installs Gates at Belle Plains Crime Scene (Photos)

Gates were installed Saturday to block entrance to 881 and 841 Belle Plains Road.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office Saturday installed gates at the entrance to the driveways at 881 and 841 Belle Plains Rd.  The two adjacent properties have been an active crime scene since March 14.

Dennis Paul Benzie was arrested March 14, after the Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at Benzie's home at 881 Belle Plains Rd.  Benzie is in Rappahannock Regional Jail on drug and weapons charges.

WUSA-9 reported Wednesday night that law enforcement is searching for bodies at this location.

Both properties -- 881 and 841 -- are owned by Sheila Benzie who died in January, according to her obituary at Covenant Funeral Service. A Dennis Benzie is listed as her surviving husband.

"As a result of that search warrant, the Sheriff’s Office remains onsite in furtherance of the ongoing investigation," Bill Kennedy, Stafford County Sheriff's Office public information officer, said in a press release distributed March 21.  It was the first and so far only official statement released to the public.

Patch called Kennedy early Saturday evening to ask why the gates were installed, and for an update on the investigation.  As of 1 a.m. Sunday, we have not received a response.

The Stafford County trailer that had been parked in the driveway at 841 Belle Plains Rd. since at least March 16 -- which neighbors say was used to bring in a back hoe -- was no longer visible at the scene Saturday evening.
