Spotsy Man Arrested in Break-In

A woman woke up to discover her neighbor standing over her as she slept, leading to burglary and attempted rape charges.

Spotsylvania Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man after a sleeping resident woke up to find one of her neighbors in her bedroom. 

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30 when the Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary in progress near Hines Court. 

The victim told police that she woke up to discover a man standing over her while she lay in bed. The victim recognized the man as neighbor Nelson Alexander Martinez-Cubias. Upon discovering Martinez-Cubias in her bedroom, the victim screamed, and the suspect ran out of the house.

According to police, neither the victim nor the victim's child were physically hurt. 

Deputy Gregory Hamilton then went to the house of Martinez-Cubias, where family members said that he was intoxicated. Martinez-Cubias was arrested and charged with burglary at night and attempted rape. He was jailed with no bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
