Spotsy Drive-By Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In

On Sept. 18, 2011, an 11-year-old boy was injured in a drive-by shooting off Burlington Drive in Spotsylvania County. On March 5, the suspect turned himself in.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office announced today that Thomas J. Baldwin has turned himself in after he was indicted last month for sevel felony charges .

Baldwin was indicted on Feb. 21 for the following: two counts of attempted murder, malicious wounding, discharging a firearm at an occupied dwelling, shooting a firearm in commission of a felony, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by convicted felon. At about 3:12 a.m. on Sept. 18 an 11-year-old boy was was sleeping in a home in the 200 block of Burlington Drive when he was shot in the back. Sheriff's investigators identified Baldwin as a suspect early in the case and Detective James Lay pieced the evidence together to get the indictments. Before he turned himself in Baldwin was considered to be armed and dangerous.

The sheriffs office today sent out a press release thanking the public for assisting in the case.
