State Police Investigate 'Unattended Death' at Rest Stop

State Police Sgt. Les Tyler wouldn't release any details about the incident Saturday.

Virginia State Police are investigating what is being called an "unattended death" Saturday at the Interstate 95 rest stop in Fredericksburg.

VSP Sgt. Les Tyler would not release any information about the incident, other than to say there is no threat to the community. He said troopers responded to the rest stop at about 9:50 a.m. The scene delayed traffic on I-95 North from Caroline County through Fredericksburg for much of the day as investigators gathered evidence. Tyler wouldn't say if the death was of a male or female.

An unattended death means one in which medical personnel were not present. An unattended death is handled as a crime scene, but it doesn't mean there was a homicide or other crime involved in the incident. The death could have been from natural causes, suicide or by accident.
