Suspect's Boyfriend Charged in Connection with Murder

18-year-old Eddie Chewning, of Spotsylvania, was arrested on charges stemming from the murder of 62-year-old Brenda Dye.

Stafford County Sheriffs have arrested the boyfriend of the . Spotsylvania resident Eddie Chewning, age 18, was arrested on Thursday evening without incident. He has been charged with one count of accessory before the fact in first degree murder and one count of accessory before the fact in the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the murder of

Dye was discovered by her husband and son as they were returning home from work. She was found unresponsive, not breathing and suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was declared dead at the scene.

Within hours, police arrested the girl, charging her with juvenile first-degree murder for the death of  Brenda Dye.

Police have declined to identify the 17-year-old girl directly. A relative visiting the Dye family home on the day after the murder told Fredericksburg Patch that the suspect was Brenda Dye's daughter.

According to court documents obtained by the Free Lance Star, a shotgun and a knife were found on the scene of the murder. The documents also say that the underage suspect admitted to police that she shot Brenda, and that Chewning and his girlfriend sent text messages and made phone calls to each other before and after the murder, including messages which state that Chewning's girlfriend had murdered her mother.

Chewning is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail. The underage suspect is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
