Two recent Craigslist sales by Spotsylvania residents have been marred by payment with counterfeit cash.

A Spotsylvania resident who  sold an item via Craigslist arranged to meet the buyer about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 30 in Central Park. The buyer paid for the item in cash, and the victim later discovered that the $20 bills used for payment were counterfeit, Fredericksburg police said.

Similarly, a Spotsylvania resident arranged to meet a Craigslist buyer about 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Westwood Shopping Center on Plank Road.  The victim later discovered that some of the $100 bills used for payment were counterfeit.

The investigation of both these incidents is ongoing, police said.
