Vehicle Crashes Into Apartment on Lafayette Blvd.

Three people were checked for injuries when the crash happened at 1710 Lafayette Boulevard

A Fredericksburg woman was charged with reckless driving today when she drove her car into an apartment at Welington Woods at 1710 Lafayette Boulevard, police said.

Two adults and a 4-year-old girl were inside when the crash happened just before noon, police said. None was seriously injured.  The driver, Orlanda Nunez, 34, of Fredericksburg, was charged with reckless driving and driving without a license. She was not seriously injured.

Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police spokeswoman, said the car was entirely in the apartment. The challenge for fire and rescue personnel and Michael's Towing is that the car crashed through a front window, but the actual apartment is below the ground level where the car crashed, so the vehicle dropped about three to four feet.

"They just can't hook up to it and yank it out of the building," Bledsoe said.

The vehicle was a Volkswagen Passat.

"The driver apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake as she was attempting to park," Bledsoe said.

The city's Building and Development workers are at the scene to check the structure once the car is out. There are two apartments above the one in which the vehicle crashed.
