Police: Robbers in Wawa Assault Run Out of Gas

Two men were arrested early Friday in Fredericksburg, when their get-away car ran out of gas.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Polliard had no trouble finding two robbery suspects after their get-away car ran out of gas.

At approximately 12:21 a.m. March 15, 911 operators received a call about an assault and robbery in the Wawa parking lot at 4625 Harrison Rd.

A 29-year-old male victim reported being approached at Mary Washington Hospital by an unknown white male needing a ride to Spotsylvania. The victim offered to take the male to the Wawa at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Hwy. and Harrison Rd.

The victim went into the store, made a purchase, returned to his car and was assaulted and robbed when he got in. The white male to whom he had just given a ride took an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect fled the area after jumping into the passenger seat of another vehicle parked in the lot.

The victim followed the suspects, called 911 and provided a description of the vehicle and its location. The victim lost sight of the suspects in the area of Chancellor Elementary School off Plank Road.

Deputies responding to the area apprehended the suspects in the area of Plank Rd and River Rd. Their vehicle had run out of gas.

Johnny Ray Brooks, 28, was arrested on charges of strong arm robbery and obtaining goods by false pretense.

Jon Dean Kimmel, 37, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit strong arm robbery. Both are being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
