City Council Takes Up Downtown Parking Garage, Fredericksburg Park Lawsuit and Riverfront Park

City Council will meet in closed and regular sessions Tuesday evening.

City Council will meet in closed session at 5:30 p.m. September 10 to discuss two items.  The closed session was announced under Code of Virginia 2.23711 (A)(3), where discussion in an open session would adversely affect the negotiating strategy or litigating posture of the public body.

Council will discuss acquisition of land downtown for a public parking garage.

They will also consult with legal counsel about the lawsuit, Fredericksburg Park, LLC v. City Council of the City of Fredericksburg.  A group of local investors under the name Fredericksburg Park want to build a 79 home subdivision called Telegraph Hill along Lafayette Blvd., across from the entrance to the Lee Drive unit of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park.

City councilman Matt Kelly told Civil War News in 2012 the housing development plan, "does not meet either the city’s transportation or preservation goals. To approve it would not be in the city’s interest.”

The regular session convenes at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers. The agenda, attached to this story as a pdf, includes a request to approve a resolution authorizing City Manager Bev Cameron to negotiate and award a contract for concept design services at Riverfront Park with the Alexandria based architecture firm Rhodeside and Harwell.
